Rural Rising Star honoured by Scottish Woodlands Ltd

Wallace Currie has been named as the winner of the Rising Star Award, sponsored by Scottish Woodlands Ltd, at a ceremony to mark exceptional contributions to rural Scotland.

The Helping It Happen Awards, now in their eighth year, are the leading accolades celebrating inspiring and innovative people, groups and businesses making a real difference to a thriving countryside.

Ian Robinson, Managing Director of Scottish Woodlands Ltd, presented the Rising Star award to Mr Currie, a lecturer in agriculture at SRUC - Scotland’s Rural College.

He was recognised for the role he has played in the creation, delivery and refinement of a new model of teaching, which involves conducting assessments in a more holistic manner with work placements incorporated into the teaching structure.

Mr Robinson said: "Wallace was a deserving winner from a very strong shortlist. Scottish Woodlands Ltd is delighted to sponsor this award, as it reinforces our total commitment to bringing through the best young talent to help rural Scotland thrive."

Sarah-Jane Laing, Chief Executive of Scottish Land & Estates, which organises the awards, said: "The inspiring Helping It Happen awards publicly recognise the often unsung heroes in rural Scotland. These dedicated individuals and organisations play a crucial role in sustaining our thriving rural communities and inspiring others to follow their lead. The awards ceremony was a great night of celebration and we congratulate all the winners and nominees for their much deserved recognition.”
